For the first time in our city's history, Costa Mesa residents will be electing city council representatives by district (rather than city-wide). In 2018, residents will elect representatives for Districts 3, 4, and 5 and a mayor. In 2020, residents will again elect a mayor and elect representatives for Districts 1, 2, and 6.
District 5 encompasses much of west side Costa Mesa. It includes the neighborhoods west of the 55, bounded by the Santa Ana River to the west, Newport Beach to the south, and Fairview Park and Wilson street to the north. (The cutout right through the middle of District 5 is District 4, which includes the Rea and Pomona school communities.)
You can read more about the new voting districts on the city's website, and look up your district by address here: http://apps.costamesaca.gov/maps/VotingDistrict.html
